Sevilla, Sevilla, Sevilla one of the most beautiful cities in the world. A place where the work of the Romans, Moors and Spanish comes together in one unique place. I can not get enough of it and can not wait to return in the heat of August. Jasmine and heavy incense mingle in the evening air. Locals and tourists, alike, stop to enjoy a vino verano (deep and intense Rioja with ice and lemonade) with some olives and iberico ham. It has so much history surrounding it from the Roman town Italica (where they film Game of Thrones and Hadrian was born) to the modern tapas bars and indoor market – which echoes the Guggenheim in Bilbao. I love rambling in the small streets with its tiny shops, all of which are tastefully decorated.
The Moors knew how to build beautiful yet practical buildings. The architecture of the Alcazar with its stunning tessellations and clean lines completely overwhelms me every time I visit. The gardens with jasmine, roses, oranges and pomegranates, all in neat squares to mirror the building itself. It is a delight for all the senses. Over the past 12 years this has been my inspiration. My home is filled with visual reminders from wallpaper to orange flower scented candles. What will inspire you on your travels this summer?
After a brief trip to the city I will then sit and relax on the beach for a few weeks. With my pile of books that I’ve been longing to read, I will indulge in the Mediterranean life. I don’t intend do to too much on hols. I come back refreshed and inspired. Rejuvenated by being by the water I am ready for the new term. Enjoy your hols and summer break and see what you can recreate in your home.
