Winter Warmth at Oswin Interiors
It usually coincides with the start of Strictly Come Dancing – my desire to make the house more cosy for Autumn and Winter. I change the cushions on the sofa to have more texture and change the candles to a heavier scent. The beds get adorned with heavy throws and blankets.

I don’t tend to change the colour scheme, although there is nothing to stop you adding a bit of colour. If you are going to do that stick to the more muted tones – the bricks or soft pinks. Netpune have re-introduced brick or “rust” as they call it. Just think of a slightly more toned-down version of your favourite primary colour.
Me, I replace linens with velvets and brushed cotton for wool, keeping a similar colour palate. Curtains are needed to keep the cold and dark out. They don’t need to overwhelm a room, think subtle patterns and textures from simple wooden or wrought iron poles. I like a darker pole for a contrast.
Sanderson have hit the nail on the head with a new William Morris collection. It is based on his time in Iceland and our love affair with the far North doesn’t seem to wane. The textures, patterns and colour of this collection makes me want to curl up with a few friends and play some card games, whilst drinking a whiskey mac.
Scent is so important and this really has to be personal preference. I do try and keep one scent throughout the house or combine – think Jo Malone perfumes here. I love the dusty woody scents, bergamonts and exotic spice. Others may prefer the autumnal fruits with a touch of cinnamon. Highland Escape from “The White Company” or Portobello Oud from “True Grace are my go to scents before I swap to “Winter” form the White Company for Christmas, but that’s another story.
